Math Station Success on the First Day

Want to implement math stations this year? Here are some ideas for the kindergarten or 1st grade classroom to get started with easy center rotations and activities. Kids will love these student centered activities and you will love their independence! Start small to grow big!

I welcomed in a new school year yesterday and today we had our first "real" day. You can NEVER EVER count that first day in Kindergarten. Trust me. It doesn't count.

I was so proud of my 2 groups today for working so hard. I got to introduce everything I wanted to (huge win!) One of our favorite things to introduce during math time is math tubs and we got to it on day one! Amazing! All 24 of them were cooperatively working with tubs and exploring materials in a meaningful way. If you want to read more about how I set up math tubs you can read more about it HERE.

We have the option of getting a rug to work on. It helps keep the materials in one place.

This year I added in those flying discs that were popular this summer. They are supposed to be a lawn toy but I made them a "spot" in the classroom. Students take a spot and work on it. This little one loved lining up her bears around the circle.

The plus side of math tubs is that all of that sitting and listening we do all day turns into laying on our bellies and exploring on our own. I love it when our whole day can turn into this.

That's all I've got friends! It's been a long week so far. The first few days of Kindergarten can be exhausting for all of us. I just wanted to share the fun we had today!

Save this post for later!
