Here are a few of my favorite books to read for Valentine's Day!
These are all affiliate links. You can see them on Amazon by clicking on the picture of the book.

Somebody Love you Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli

In this sweet book Mr. Hatch is kind of a grump. Until he gets a note from a secret admirer then he changes his tune! He discovers somebody does love him and it turns out to be the whole town in this fun book for Valentine's Day. It is also a great conversation starter about friendship, caring, and random acts of kindness.

This is NOT a Valentine by Carter Higgins

This book is not a Valentine. It doesn't have lace edges or sugary hearts. But it is full of lucky rocks, secret hiding spots, and gumball machine treasures. This is a book about waiting in line and wishing for cinnamon buns. About recognizing that if you care so much about someone not thinking you care, maybe you really do.

Love is by Diane Adams

This beautifully illustrated book tells the heartwarming story of a little girl and a duckling, who both grow to understand what it means to care for each other as they learn that love is as much about letting go as it is about holding on. A little girl finds a duckling who has wandered away from the park onto the city streets, and takes it home to care for it. The baby duck requires constant attention—early morning feedings, bathing, and tidying—until the time comes to say goodbye. When her pet has grown too big for the bath, the girl takes the full-grown duck back to the pond. Afterward, she misses it and wonders if it remembers her. One day, the duck comes back—with six ducklings of her own.

Hug Machine by Scott Campbell

Watch out world, here he comes, the hug machine!

This endearing story encourages a warm, caring, and buoyantly affectionate approach to life. Everyone deserves a hug-and this book!

Love Monster by Rachel Bright

Love Monster is a slightly hairy monster trying to fit in with the cuddly residents of Cutesville. But as it turns out, it is hard fit in with the cute and fluffy when you are a googly-eyes monster. So Love Monster sets out to find someone who will love him. Such a fun addition to our Valentine stories. The students love this sweet character!

One Love based on the songs by Bob Marley by Cedella Marley

One love, one heart, let's get together and feel all right: Adapted from one of Bob Marley's most beloved songs, One Love brings the joyful spirit and unforgettable lyrics to life for a new generation. Readers will delight in dancing to the beat and feeling the positive groove of change when one girl enlists her community to help transform her neighborhood for the better. It's a testament to the amazing things that can happen when we all get together with one love in our hearts.

A Little Spot of Love by Diane Alber

Everyone NEEDS to be loved! But sometimes its hard to figure out how to LOVE someone the way they want to be LOVED. This fun story visualizes LOVE as a fun PINK spot and it guides you through the ways you can express love, from listening to being kind. so any child can see how to grow their LOVE SPOT!

I also love A Little Spot of Kindness, A Little Spot of Confidence, and A Little Spot of Sadness to teach about emotions. Diane Alber has a whole list of "A Little Spot" books.

Slugs in Love by Susan Pearson

Marylou loves everything about Herbie—how his slime trail glistens in the dark, how he can stretch himself thin to squeeze inside the cellar window, and how he always finds the juiciest tomatoes. But Marylou is a shy slug. How can she get Herbie to notice her? Find out how Marylou woos her beloved in this must-have love story that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Now here is the best part about reading all of these books about love, friendship, and caring. This is a perfect week to make connections with the caring and love you are reading about and how you are showing kindness in your own life. Here are some examples of some activities you could do after reading one of these stories.
