You never know what type of activity is going to be the classroom favorite from year to year. Some years my students love stamping, other years they were obsessed with daubers. Last year it was cut and glue that really engaged my students. This year it's all about the magnets!
Early in the year I introduced these Alphabet Cookie Sheet activities as an easy back to school center to get them working with and manipulating the alphabet. They were a big hit!
As we sneak into fall (we sneak in the southwest, still waiting on the temps to fall below 100 on a regular basis)......it is time to put those alphabet activities in the intervention bin and start with some new magnetic fun. I started with a Halloween set because who doesn't love Halloween? Let me rephrase that......what 5 year old doesn't love Halloween?
I started with a simple color sort because I couldn't resist these adorable little monsters. This activity is a perfect fit for preschool students who aren't ready to start naming the alphabet yet. I am a firm believer in having those shapes in their hands early even if they don't know anything about the alphabet yet!
Then I focused on a little first sound fun with Halloween items.
With this set I also included some counting activities because the number magnets in my sets were getting lonely. I love the fun clip art for counting and I think my students will too.
These magnets are from Wal-mart. I found them in the toy section but I have had friends in other states tell me they are hard to find. This set from Amazon is very similar from EduKid Toys. I think I like it better because it has capital and lower case letters.

October is right around the corner so these will be added in to our regular center rotations in the next week or so. I already have them all printed out and laminated.....prep done! No small pieces to cut out, no bulky materials to keep track of, just switching out one copy for another on top of my cookie sheets. Yay for easy!
