My favorite books about SKELETONS

I love the month of October and all of the opportunities there are for thematic teaching. My October book bin is always overflowing! Here are some of my favorite books to use when teaching ALL ABOUT BONES around Halloween time.

Me and My Amazing Body by Joan Sweeney- This book helps answer a lot of questions like: Why do we have bones? What is under your skin? What do muscles do?
During our investigation into human bones we focus on that section but it is an overall amazing resource for a primary classroom.

The Skeleton Book: Get to Know Your Bones Inside and Out- Not only is this book an amazing resource but it comes with a full sized poster of a skeleton! It has computer generated 3-D images of our skeleton in action. My students loved the pictures and we were able to try things like back bends, jumping, bending, and picking up things after reading through some of the pages. It lends itself nicely to quick brain breaks and movement in the classroom.

My Amazing Bones and Skeleton by A.D. Largie-Our bodies can do some amazing things (like repair broken bones all on their own) and this book does a good job of sharing that in a kid friendly way. My students enjoyed the fun way the information is presented and the illustrations are amazing.

Skeletons ARE NOT Spooky by Duds- This fun tale explores skeletons in an entirely different way. Less informational and more fun the author explores what skeletons are really like. Do they like taking bubble baths or strolls in the park? This book attempts to make skeletons a little more friendly and a lot less spooky.

The Skeleton Inside You by Philip Balestrino- Any of the Let's Read and Find out Science series are must have resources in the classroom. I used this a lot during our investigation into how many bones there are in the body, what ligaments and joints are, and really to answer that question what would we look like without bones (the students love this part!)

Dem Bones by Bob Barner- Just plain old fun! If you love the song you will enjoy this book. It is informational and fun at the same time. It comes in Spanish too but I can't find a link for it. I don't know where my copy came from but I do have one!

Skeleton Hiccups by Margery Cuyler-I think I love this one the most because I get hiccups A LOT and I know how hard they can be to get rid of! This is just a cute tale, a little more on the Halloween side but was a fun addition to our unit.

You can read more about this ALL ABOUT BONES or see this SURVIVING HALLOWEEN unit in my TPT store. There are so many more fun books about skeletons and the human body but those are some of my favorites. Enjoy!

Learning about skeletons during the month of October is a fun way to include some science into your day. These books are some of my favorites to use during our investigation into the human body and skeleton. #allaboutbones #kindergartenscience #halloween
