Searching for ways to keep your students engaged during word work time? Always! It seemed like a constant struggle until this year. I blogged about this topic not long ago and you can see that post HERE. My word work has been totally transformed this year and I love it! I'm not here to change anything up today, I am sticking with my original plan but I found two fun options I just had to share today!

Time Me
I have had this as part of our sight word Rainbow Words routines for a long time and I usually use a sand timer. Kids love using a sand timer but I found a really cool alternative to the traditional timer. My daughter is in the teaching program right now and she brought this fun timer home from her practicum teacher. Take a look:
The timer itself is a box and you just set it on the table face up to whatever time you want to count down. It is so kid friendly! When the timer goes off they just turn it over to a new time. 2 different timers are included, one with longer times (10 min, 20 min, 30 min) and this one with shorter time frames. I think my students are going to love this fun little techie device!
Here are two different options from Amazon. The one on the left is the one I tried out but I really like the solid green one too (and it's a little cheaper).
Build a Word
This is nothing new but I just love these tiles!
Again, my daughter came home from college and she showed me this game called "Bananagrams". I immediately turn teacher mode to think about all of the ways you can use these in the classroom. I like these because they have a little weight to them, and there aren't any numbers on them like Scrabble tiles which can be a little confusing. And you get a bunch with one game.
I am including a link here to Amazon to the game AND a second set of tiles that are for beginning spellers with digraphs, vowel teams, and word families. So many possibilities with that one!
Great options for word work! We work on our Rainbow Words throughout the year to get us ready for reading even more sight words in 1st grade. You can see them in my TPT store HERE or read a blog post about them HERE.
