Dollar Tree Centers for January & a FREEBIE

Who doesn't love the Dollar Tree? They have figured teachers out and keep the fun stuff in stock for hands on fun in the classroom. I found the "coolest" materials there yesterday!
I picked up these little tongs and plastic ice cubes and knew what I wanted to do with them immediately! My students love using tongs and the ice cubes are perfect for writing letters and words on. Take a look!

I will include these in our fine motor bins that we use every morning and have students work in pairs to pick out a word and read it to their partner or using the letters they can put the alphabet in order or build words (depending on their level).

I also found these great little metal boxes that are perfect for storing our January Literacy Center cards. They are a bit Christmas themed...but I tried to pick the ones that had penguins and snowmen so I could use them all month. I love that they are metal because if I want to add in some letter magnets I can do that too!
These January Literacy Centers ideas are fun word work for Kindergarten or First Grade. Student friendly and fun with a snowman, mitten, ice, snow, and snowflake themed winter activities. Will go great with anything teachers are teaching this January! Includes 9 centers with letter naming, sight word fluency, first sound fluency, nonsense words, phonemic awareness and more! Perfectly aligned with common core standards. #kindergartenclassroom #januarycenters

I'm ALWAYS looking for more storage and I picked up some pencil pouches to store the rest of our centers in too. I love the bright colors and the fact that they are clear so students can see what they are picking when they go to our literacy center.

These literacy centers will be available all month long so I need them to be easy to access and engaging enough that students will want to pick them again and again. These clear pouches will hold enough materials to make that happen!

Here is the FREE FILE I promised. It is a fun little sound match game that you could store in the metal tins or the clear pouches. It would be perfect in both!

Want to pin this for later? Here you go!
This blog posts has some fun ideas for student learning activities from the Dollar Tree. These kindergarten centers include fine motor, word work, and even cooperation! Also included are ideas for literacy center storage and some fun ways for teachers to keep learning fun in the kindergarten or first grade classroom. Kids will love these fun hands on centers! #kindergartenclassroom #januarycenters

  1. Is there a recording sheet for the sight word with ice cubes?

  2. No I didn't make one. I used it as a partner game for them to read to each other. If you want them to record the words you could use a white board and dry erase marker. :) Thanks for the question!
