Let's Talk About Books! The Kiss That Missed

I'm so excited to be linking up again with Deanna Jump for Let's Talk About Books Tuesday.  I found a fun new book to share with you this week!

Today I will be reviewing the book
The Kiss That Missed
by David Melling

First, I have to admit....I judge a book by it's cover.  Every. time.  I know you are not supposed to but a cute cover gets me every time!
Here is a quick summary:
One evening, when the King is in a hurry, his goodnight kiss to the Little Prince goes astray. After rattling around the Prince’s bedroom, it flies out the window and floats into the dark forest, where it has no business to be. The King decides to do something about it. He orders the Knight to climb on his horse, ride into the forest, and bring back the kiss. But the forest is filled with spooky things that frighten both the Knight and his horse. How will they ever succeed in bringing the kiss back to the castle?

I was looking for a book to focus on grammar skills and this one jumped out out at me.
Here's an example:

I can imagine starting an anchor chart with adjectives to describe the forest.  There are a lot of adjectives in the book, but the kiddos could add their own too.

It doesn't stop there!  There are animals in the book with long scary claws and hairy nostrils.  It's a really fun way to talk about using adjectives to describe nouns. I'm excited to add this to my list of grammar books next year.

How about a FREEBIE?  This book has me excited about adjectives so I just put this little response sheet together for the book.

Want to know what's even better?  This book is a must own but it's also available on one of my favorite websites!  The SAG Foundation (Screen Actors Guild) has a website called Storyline Online and they feature actors reading wonderful children's books.  If you haven't used it before you HAVE TO check it out!

I started using it this year when I had a cold and just couldn't do my read aloud one day.  My kiddos requested it week after week until it became our Wednesday tradition.  Seriously, if I skipped it they were angry pretty disappointed!

So that's my Let's Talk About Books Tuesday.  Don't forget to link back with Deanna!
